When I was a kid my family had home movies. Ya know, the ones your dad took with that old Bell & Howell Camera (in this case the one I took apart when I was around 11, of course just to see how it worked and then put back together, which didn't work out as planned). So we had these home movies over the years and when we would have movie time (maybe twice a year, or whenever we had a new reel developed) we also had these cartoon reels that my dad bought. We had about 5 or six cartoons that we would always watch during movie time, and I loved watching the cartoons more than the home movies.

I can't remember them all but my two favorites were this one and another called "Little Black Sambo". I don't remember exactly what "Little Black Sambo" was about but I do believe Sambo was little and black. I would imagine it was at least stereotypical and would not have a chance of being made these days. I'm gonna go look for that one next.

I found this after talking to one of my brothers about the old cartoons.
Its called "Dig That Dog", although I am almost positive that the cartoon super 8mm film that I had was called "The Dog Who Buried The Moon". Maybe that's just what I called it as a kid, but I could swear the box had "The Dog Who Buried The Moon" on it. Anyways, without further ado, heres me from a real early home movie and one of my favorite cartoons as a kid, "Dig That Dog".

Wiki'd "Dig That Dog" and all I got was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Woody_Woodpecker_and_Friends_Classic_Cartoon_Collection:_Volume_2 Sad

Lol., I found "Little Black Sambo"!
Now I'm positive the reel we had was black & white, cause "Dig That Dog" was the only color cartoon we had and that made it special(and a bunch of real old classic B&W Popeyes), but this is in color. I haven't even watched it yet. This should be interesting and fun

haHA!
I expected that to be much more racist.
That dog was a real trouble maker. Would have enjoyed seeing him cut up into hot dogs and shishkabobbed at the end.
At least neutered.
Where was Big Black Mombo during the tiger attack? Out back smokin crack? (somebody politically correct meh!)

Sorry about the commercials they have during those but the innerwebby just ain't what it used to be (..ours).

"little Black Sambo".......memories. In Houston, we used to have a pancake chain called 'Sambo's".

Back to the point, I used to LOVE "Song Of The South', a Disney Movie featuring Brer Fox and Brer Rabbit, etc.
Disney buried this movie under Magic mountain many years ago, and it's virtually unfindable.

About A year ago, I found SOTS on these here interwebs, and watched it with familia de Htown.

HOLY SHIT!!!!!! How completely and utterly racist is this movie! The cartoon segments are still good, but
the live-action stuff is so bad, it makes you embarassed to be white! (Even you, Vegas).

Anyone who can't find SOTS and is interested, XMas is coming soon. Lemme know.

I'm sure I've seen Dig That Dog sometime long, long ago, but don't remember seeing Sambo before. When I was a kid, we had a book called Little Black Sambo where the little boy ended up being chased by a tiger around a tree so fast that the tiger turned into butter, which the kid took home and ate on pancakes his mammy made.

I love these old cartoons. Very Happy

I'm pretty sure the reel we had was shorter and as I said, in B&W. I was very surprised to see that it was made in 1938. Figured the 50's.

One of my earliest recollections of any cartoon I watched on a regular basis was (drumroll please..)

COURAGEOUS CAT!

Yea, I'm the Frog, see?

I loved this cartoon. I'm sure it was a precursor to my fondness for Batman. At a certain point in every ones childhood they must make that decision.
Superman or Batman? Kinda like Rolling Stones or Beatles? You can like both but you have to choose a favorite. It's an unwritten rule.
If it wasn't for the Cat I don't know if I would have went for the Bat.
