This is horrible news. I can't believe he's gone. I'm climbing back into bed.

I still can't believe he is gone. Damn.
Greg was an intelligent guy. He was funnier than shit. Of all the comics in the fuckin world the last I would have thought would OD would have been Greg. They say it was accidental, but still.

This is worse then when Kinison died. Sam was at least a fat alcoholic with the Belushi syndrome. GG seemed like he had everything under control: A permanent gig at the roasts, a new job at NBC for LCS, whtever. "Mid-Life Vices" is one of the best Stand-Up DVD's I've seen in years. This is horrible, terrible, and tragic news. I ACTUALLY feel as if I lost a friend and relative.
This is horrible.
I fuckin' love you Greg. I can actually state with a brave face that I had a Man-Crush on you. You will ALWAYS live on at Casa De H-town.
No fucking emoticans. Greg deserves better.

I'm watching "Mid-life Vices" right now, and I'm crying like a little bitch. WHY? WHY WHY WHY?
I felt less passonate when my grandfather died (for real). I'm actually CRYING now.
What about the powererful, emporing messages that come from the the Puerto Rican parade? "You're NEVER to proud to wear a tube-top"
(These are gonna keep coming until I pass out. Deal with it. I FUCKING loved GG. )

Like you Steve, this has upset me way more than I would have thought it would. It just don't seem right that Greg should go out like this. And like you LR, I thought of Greg as one of the best comic "left standing" these days. IMO he just always hit the mark. I thought he was more well known but seeing that there was no news when he went in the hospital made me think, wow, he was flying low under the radar. Lower then I realized. Just today my local newspaper includes and article about his passing, two days after the fact. Maybe his death is having a ripple effect where the media is finding out just how well liked he was.
They say he was one of the great roasters, and he certainly was that, but he was so much more. He was a classic comedian.
A month or two ago CC was showing a few of his stand up routines. One was pretty recent and one was from long ago, probably before his Tough Crowd days. He was freakin hilarious. Esp the old one, where he looked so young. During those shows I thought, man, I forgot how much I enjoyed this guys comedy. Why hasn't he "broken through" and become more mainstream? I got the impression that if he wanted to he could have. That he liked where he was at.
Yea, and why. That question hits me too Steve. Why? Why?
I don't think I've been bothered by the passing of a celebrity/someone I didn't really know since John Lennon died. And that's saying a lot Greg. That's how big you were in my book.

That was. I remember that well. Greg, as usual, well informed and sharp with his commentary on current events. Then Greg looked almost scared when he first locked horns with Denis but then he re-loaded and gave him both barrels. Ba-BOOM! That was one of the most uncomfortably funny yet compelling segments ever on TCwCQ. I wonder if he and Denis ever ironed that out. I hope so but I bet that feud that started right there existed since. I'm sure Giraldo had subject notes because he was smart enough to know subjects to make notes on, but there's no way he could have written all the stuff he was coming out with. Maybe two of those jokes were formed in his head before the segment.
I remember coming away from that (and i do remember we talked about this back when the show aired on whatever board we had then) thinking man, Leary is a real baby dick who just got shown up by one of the lil guys (greg was pretty new to me then-TC was where I first saw him perform). Denis seemed so jealous that he was being out gunned by Greg that he had to directly take a shot at him, and that's what started it. After that segment I thought so much more of Giraldo and so much less of Leary (and that continues to this day- as good as a bullshit soap opera dressed as a fire"mans" show Rescue Me is, I don't watch it).
Also was great to see even just a segment from TCwCQ. That old set and stuff. Quinn bumbling out his lines, lol. Almost nostalgic now. Are there more TC clips out there?
great clip LR, ty 4 sharing it.

Very well put, Z - all of it.
I haven't enjoyed seeing Leary on anything since that incident. It just showed what a humorless egotist he was.
I didn't do any research on it, but I'm sure TC vids abound at YouTube. Here's another Greg thing I'd forgotten about that I saw posted today. Funny stuff.

I found it posted somewhere... and it does seem vaguely familiar, but what was posted at YouTube with the video is "I'm a big fan of Stand Up Nation with Greg Giraldo. The guy's hilarious and I'm glad CC gave him his own show. This spoof is DAMN funny."
So now I'm looking up Stand Up Nation. Greg had his own show on CC?!?

Maybe CC shows different shows in different parts of the country these days. I know Silverman's show used to be on CC here but now I can't find it anywhere. Steve watches it so its on where he lives. Or maybe he records it on his big neanderthal forehead and then plays it back.

Just checked out his wiki page.
So wait..... he was in a coma and could have possibly recovered? or what? I don't know what to make of this entry:
Quote :
Death
On September 25, 2010, Giraldo overdosed on prescription medication. After he failed to appear for a scheduled performance at the Stress Factory, police officers found him in his hotel room at the Hyatt Hotel in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and rushed him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in that town. TMZ reported that he had been in a coma for five days when his family decided to remove life support. He died September 29, 2010.

So sad.
And I found a couple of references to Stand Up Nation, but not much info out there on it. I think maybe I did see it. It was on 2005-07 and from what little I did find, Greg hosted a show featuring stand-ups. I'm not sure if he was the host for all the shows or just a few or one. Maybe someone else can find that info... ?

FANTASTIC Clip! TY for that! I remember that like yesterday! I agree 100% with Zvon.
Wasn't this the ONLY roast GG didn't do?
FUCK DENIS LEARY! Other than "The Asshole Song", what has he contributed to society?
ALSO......If you read this little-known website called "wikipedia", It tells you when the Sara Silverman shows are gonna be on, 'cause CC damn sure don't. For example, the first half of this season aired at different times on different days. I had to scamble to find them, AND D/L some of them from the junkie. I'm guessing SS did something to piss off CC, even tho it won an Emmy.
This is (yet another reason) I FUCKING DETEST Comedy Central.
great clip LR, ty 4 sharing it.
